climate debt

Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

I related debt to climate debt. As developing countries see it, developed countries should owe the developing world a debt for the years of unfettered carbon emissions that are now contributing to climate change. In addition, rich countries got rich at their expense: as the planet continues to warm, i¬¬¬t will heighten water scarcity, intensify flooding and droughts and worsen some infectious diseases—all of which will first hit developing countries that have not yet had the chance to burn fossil fuels in large quantities. In addition, everyone in the world have left plenty of carbon footprints which lead to climate change, so everyone on earth does owe climate debt to our natureMy design concept is about communicating with all people in the world, especially for people in developed countries to do something to pay off the climate debt in order to save our shared planet. My design is a series of poster, a folded poster with four related posters and a postcard. Firstly, I design a folded poster that can be folded like an envelope. On the front cover it written about repayment of climate debt agreement. And on the back of this poster I use info graphic techniques to provide information about how much climate debt (excessive emissions of carbon dioxide) that rich countries owe to developing countries and the adverse impacts would have on developing countries if they do not pay off the climate debt. As a designer, my communication work is to make people be aware of the debt they owed to climate change and encourage them to make compensating for global warming, especially people who live in rich nations. The only way that we people could do is to reduce our carbon footprints in order to repay the climate debt not only to developing countries but also to our shared planet. Therefore, for educational purposes, I design four related posters, which can be put in the folded poster.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

For these posters, I use typographic, info graphic, and illustration skills to teach people how to repay the climate debt. After people reading all the information provided, if they acknowledge what I design about climate debt, they can sign on provided repayment of climate debt agreement postcard.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

In my opinion, my design does benefit our society a lot. It not only makes people be aware about how necessary it is for people to pay off climate debt but also teaches people what they are able to do to pay off climate debt. First of all, my design has educated people to do something right to reduce carbon footprints and save our planet. Secondly, it advocated people in developed countries to help developing countries to cope with climate change. Lastly, it makes all people in the world be aware about that it is essential to pay off the climate debt.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

What I learned from my work is that I could make my efforts to save our planet. Not only developed countries owe developing countries the climate debt, but also I have left my carbon footprints on earth and I should also pay off my climate debt. What is more, by creating my work I learned use info graphic, typo and illustration skills. For educational aspect, I have learned how to communicate with people in both technical and educational ways.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

I think my work is good for two aspects. On the one side, I have made this poster multi-functional, not only can be put on street wall but also it can be folded like mail and send it to people. Secondly, my design is combined with colourful illustrations to make people be interested in information provided in these posters.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

As I mentioned that my poster could be folded like an envelope, so it can be implemented as mail-out. I can put them in mailboxes, when people see it and sign on climate debt agreement postcard, it could be sent to Climate Change Organization to show you have made up your mind to reduce carbon footprints to repay your climate debt. Or you can send it to your friends or relatives to teach those who are not being aware of climate debt yet.

All in all, I benefited a lot from this assignment. I hope my work can do a good communication job to make people be aware of climate debt and take actions now to pay off it in order to save our planet.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
