Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the
festival outlines:
The debt booklet looks at the morality of repaying back a debt. It explores what makes us feel the need to repay and how this is used against us. This main idea forms the title “Obligation and Corruption” for the booklet. Meaning how we feel an obligation to repay debts and how this has been corrupted by greed.
The diamond on the front of the slipcase is used to illustrate the main idea. This idea that the morality side of repaying back what you owe is pure, as a diamond, yet is also corrupted by the greed of others, as shown by the flaws in the diamond. The suit of diamonds in playing cards relates to its symbols of physical wealth and prosperity. Bringing the theme together within the illustration.
The booklet takes on the appearance of a bundle of cash. The patterns of the pages imitate those used on Australian currency, while the green colours throughout the design are used to represent wealth and money.
Overall the booklet aims to raise awareness of this morality of debt. It is seen as a good idea to repay someone, but questions whether it is moral to demand repayment from someone in debt to you. It questions how this moral obligation is used against us for others benefits and gain.
