Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

Being a designer, I get all sorts of promo work sent to me. One day I received a 16x20 book of stock photos which were pretty generic and I almost threw out. Instead I thought I would see what kind of manipulations I could put on top of them. Since the subject matter was mostly landscapes, I came up with several pieces about the environment. This particular one was originally about the dangers of genetically modified foods. Shortly after I learned about Monsanto and it's monopoly on seed patents and image I created fit perfectly with the issue.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

I use the visual approach as I am a visual artist. I use the play of marking on top of a "pretty picture" to make it more personal and meaningful, as we are bombarded with pretty pictures in advertising.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

I think it is always important to get a different point of view on an issue from an independent source. So many opinions are bought and sold that it is hard to tell what a person really thinks.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

Just how deep and complex the business of agriculture is.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

Because it is showing the pretty picture with a not so pretty idea on top of it.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

It will be shown at the New York City Public library branch on Mulberry Street for the month of June in 2013.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

No, not yet.
