Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

My idea is based around the idea of talking in public spaces to people you don’t know; the public space being rural public transport. Intercity train rides from rural areas can often take up to 3 hours, that’s three hours of a person just sitting there next to other people in the same situation. This creates the perfect space for dialogue to take off but in most cases it doesn’t and people prefer to sit in silence alone, for an extended period. The transport provider in regional Victoria now have a ‘quiet carriage’ which prefers no talking at all, limiting a chance for dialogue completely. Therefore, my concept is to contradict the quiet carriage and create a “talking carriage” that promotes dialogue.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

My communication approach includes the use of graphic signage on regional trains, in big city train stations and in the rural spaces. The communication on the signage includes casual quotes promoting the idea of talking to the people close by to you and also the idea of people “uncovering the untold” which is a nice casual approach again for people to start communicating.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

The benefits to society created by my communication are the casual approach to talking to people you don’t know in a place that seems appropriate. I believe the benefits aren’t a big deal but they’re a nice addition to creating more dialogue.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

From what I learnt by doing this project is that dialogue has potential to be in a lot more places than it is now, although media has taken over there is still opportunity for it to spread and I do think my communication expresses that it could grow more.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

My work is good communication because it’s not in your face communication but it’s done in a subtle way that has impact. Recognisable impact because people will get the point.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

The campaign can be implemented on the regional train network along side the already existing “quite carriage” a nice addition to the train style.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

My work doesn’t have an effect on any other media forms.
