Everyone needs a home... even the homeless.
Hence HOME SWEET HOME,
a design + communication initiative with two goals:

• Provide access to DIY cardboard "houses" made from cardboard boxes which can be found in any dumpster
• use these temporary shelters as billboards to publicize a simple truth: NO ONE should live in a cardboard box.
The final ambition - dream? - of HOME SWEET HOME is to provide relief beyond a few cardboard houses. Thus, the communication campaign will include a call to action, with concrete suggestions of what
we can all do to help.

Centered around a series of designer cardboard houses, the project makes a thought-provoking statement about homelessness in developed countries, to draw attention to the issue and inspire problem-solving. As well as the cardboard house installations, Home Sweet Home features collaboratively designed cardboard homewares, local and international video interviews with homeless people, photography, and art. The project can take many forms based on the needs of the beneficiary organization. The themes are homelessness, social exclusion, collaboration and sustainability.

How does project benefit the client (if there is a client)?
Installations and videos are exhibited at a prominent gallery, alongside photos submitted from all over the world, and cardboard objects designed by the artist and other local artists and made by local sponsors. These objects and artworks are for sale at the gallery, and the money raised buys much needed supplies for local homeless organization. Home Sweet Home’s launch can be used to benefit in the following ways: • The cardboard houses will feature local organization / gallery branding and messages. • Organization receives the funds raised from any sales of design objects • Organization / gallery is the patron of the project and shares public and media attention


How does project benefit the people you are speaking to with your communication?
Home Sweet Home is a multimedia art project about homelessness and social exclusion with a concrete "call to action", .


How does project benefit the wider society?
It raises awareness of the problem of homelessness at local and global level. At the same time, it offers sollutions for current local problems.


How did/does this project benefit author (authors/makers of the project)?
It is a real challange to unite all talents, wills, supports, time and energy to create a value which could create a real benefit for the sociaty.


Tell us something about your view on communication. What is your / your organisation's / initiative's (visual) communication philosophy?
HOME SWEET HOME started from what we felt was a valuable design idea, with the potential to make the life of a few homeless people better. While developing it, it became obvious that the cardboard houses themselves had great potential as media/billboards. They were calling for a communication campaign, so we started asking associations what message would best serve their purpose, to help the homeless in a larger sense. HOME SWEET HOME is thus becoming a DO / FEW + TELL / ALL project.


What about the process of creating this work? Please describe it.
Home Sweet Home is a truly collaborative project. We invite all the ideas, suggestions and direction. So far it gets together about 50 collaborations from the field of cinematography, literature, strategy, photography, marketing... "Making something from nothing" by "Know to How" is our major potential.
