Merry Christmas
1/2

Time before Christmas 2010. Everybody gets wooshy and surprisingly wants to do something good. But students don´t have lots of money to donate - or do they? We all have bottles, where a fee is on, what you get back by returning (german system - don´t know if it´s everywhere in EU like this right now).

Christoph approached me with his idea and I was inspired right away.

So we collected one month all empty bottles. I made a stencil with "frohe Weihnachten" which means "Merry Christmas" and sprayed it on see through garbage bags. One day before Christmas we filled the bags with the bottles and brought them to the sadest christmas tree in Konstanz (Germany). The tree is on a place in front of the Konstanzer Tafel, which is a german help project, that exists in every city. There you can get food from the supermarket for free, if you need it. Also behind that tree there is a supermarket, where you can return your bottles.

We hoped the bottles would be collected by the people who really needed something...but we left them to destiny.

There was no sign or something, just an anonymous gift from us, and we hope somebody had a better day.

Year:
2010

Country:
Germany

Budget:
our own pocket

How does project benefit the client (if there is a client)?
there was no client

How does project benefit the people you are speaking to with your communication?
Maybe think about it and participate with their own bottles?

How does project benefit the wider society?
Bottle collectors in Germany aren´t only homeless people, there are also workers, who collect bottles in the evening to pay something little extra for their children, what they couldn´t do, if the bottles wouldn´t be there. We hoped to inspire somebody to help somebody too.

How did/does this project benefit author (authors/makers of the project)?
We could give something - and we didn´t had the feeling, that it is only a donation for credits in the tax bill.

Tell us something about your view on communication. What is your / your organisation's / initiative's (visual) communication philosophy?
social critisism

What about the process of creating this work? Please describe it.
Christoph is the mastermind and I´m just the excited sprayer ;-)
