Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the
festival outlines:
My project is an interactive game that has the potential to be a part of a larger campaign. This game uses culture jamming to highlight the issue of the limited availability of healthy food to those with lower socioeconomic standing. Through visual communication, It tackles a food democracy issue and transforms it into a visually entertaining and stimulating education tool.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
The communication approach I have taken includes the use of graphics to portray the interactive game that I have designed. These graphics are somewhat comical and use bright, happy colours.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of
your communication?
Through my communication, benefits to society include an avenue of informing younger generations and the creation of a belief to be less judgmental of others. It will hopefully also be used as a talking point and encourage action in terms of making healthy foods more affordable.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted
work?
When creating my submission, I learnt that health-damaging behavior can be greatly influenced by socioeconomic disadvantages. This extends further than food democracy and highlights how unfair certain living environments can be. Often we are criticized if we live an unsatisfactory life, however, some people have little say in the matter and are doing the best they can with the cards they have been dealt. We are living in a society where soon we will be encouraged to starve if we cannot afford healthy food, rather than consuming things that might be considered to make us fat.
Why is your work, GOOD communication
WORK?
My project uses good communication for the desired target market, as it is stimulating and interactive. I have also created a character and a story to go alongside the plight of Frank. This could be used in the future to further the success of Frank’s campaign, through the output of a children’s book. Frank the Tank also utilises effective communication by highlighting the issue through an indirect approach. This provides a way of educating without making it obvious and boring.
Where and how do you intent do implement your
work?
My work would be a physical creation that would be put into arcade style environments; where young people go to play games and have fun.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe
the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change
other media with your work-
how?)
No. My design is the idea of the game, I was unable to create it physically.
