Say No To Caged Eggs

Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

The idea behind my work is that of battery farms and the way in which the chickens located there are treated. Not only the poor treatment of the animals is a factor, but also the fact that they are continuously laying eggs onto dead carcasses below them, and these eggs end up on millions peoples kitchen tables every day! I redesigned an egg carton with short statements about what happens in battery farms, and i also created a poster that could be handed out to make this information more accessible for those who want to know more about the issue. Something needs to change, and the circumstances that the chickens are living in, in battery farms all over the world is disgusting.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

A visual, interactive approach is what was important to me. I wanted people to be able to understand what my message was through the ability to actually walk into a supermarket and pick up the egg carton, then notice the lack of weight which would make them aware of the message I am trying to get across about Caged Eggs being a large reason behind the death of so many chickens.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

People will become aware of the world around them in relation to battery farms. They will come to understand the horrible situations that the chickens are forced to endure and less people will buy the cage eggs, therefore the owners of the battery farms might get the message, and some form of drastic measure may be taken to put better living circumstances in place for these poor creatures.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

I became aware of so many things whilst creating this work, not only that the chickens have no room to move and die due to many, many circumstances - but that the male chickens are deemed useless and killed only a day after they were hatched into the world. Life is precious, and all living creatures deserve a chance at a half decent life. I will never buy caged eggs again, that's for sure.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

The colour palette that I have incorporated into my design is eye catching therefore the shoppers and passers by would be drawn into this particular branding. But once they pick up the carton, due to its lack of weight they would be forced to take a look inside to only find broken egg shells and little statements about how the chickens are forced to live in battery farms all over the world.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

My work would be placed in a supermarket on the shelves with the other brands of eggs, whether it be the cage, cage free or free range so that the shoppers had a good chance to see the new product on the shelf. The poster that I have created to go with the cartons themselves, would also be placed in the supermarket where it would make people more aware of what is happening around us, because many people don't know what goes on in battery farms and they need to be informed of this so that something can be changed.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

Not as of yet.
