Every advert in a London Underground station has been replaced with cat photos

Why?

a) it would look amazing

b) it’s exhausting being asked to buy stuff all the time

‘Wouldn’t it be great not to worry about the holiday we can’t afford, the car we don’t need, or the body we don’t have? Imagine a world where public spaces made you feel good.

Memefest PLEASURE: The Pleasure of Drugs

Just saw this fantastic news. Police caught a man who they thought was smuggling amphetamines - but now, he was trafficking another (dangerous and highly pleasurable) substance.

Here something very relevant to our PLEASURE outlines:

"Cartels and mafia are not about ideology, they are about business and this makes them so much more dangerous. As Islamic State is losing its ground it is worth remembering that its power and now the evening of it have been strongly tied to the oil business. As long as it was able to control oil fields in Iraq and Syria and have Turkey turning the blind eye for it to export the oil, it was powerful. In comparison to oil, cocaine fields ain’t going nowhere, the white petroleum of our time will always find and build its pipelines. Whether it is the underground tunnels bellow the Mexico-US border, submarines in the gulf of Mexico, containers on the transatlantic ships, the stomach of a human mule, planes, helicopters, cars, trucks… Where there is a movement, there can be a cocaine movement."

"Designers have played an active role in creating digital and physical borders to prevent refugees entering Europe". But can and should the refugee crisis be treated as a design problem?

This is good. While "critical making" here is focusing on product design mostly, the concept can be extended to visual communication. Relevant to what we do: http://current.ecuad.ca/what-is-critical-making

THE STATE ARE US
-------------------------
another World appears

In present human societies the most important and powerful roles of our social organization (those inside the public administration: education, fiscality, justice, information, health and safety, public order and so on) are assigned for life to certain persons, leaving the citizens DISEMPOWERED and EXCLUDED. As a matter of fact the State appears to be disjoined from Citizenry. These two entities, that for social pact should coincide, should be one only thing, as a matter of fact are frequently at odds and in opposition, both in their aims and in their behaviors.

It is often written in the constitutions of our Countries that "SOVEREIGNTY BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE" (meaning to all the people!) but the reality is vastly different. All our Countries, all the Countries in the world, literally belong to those persons who are assumed for life in the jobs of the State, whether they are executives or their subordinates. Present nations are in the hands of a real oligarchy --of a low level but spread everywhere-- that still subdues in a subtle, sly manner the remaining part of the population. Nations are so prevented from a natural evolution towards what the various situational ambits indeed demand.

If we are not in agreement with our government's policies, do not lose other time: let us concentrate our energies toward the removal of that particular model of statal organization that is the basis for every harmful behaviour of the governments and that supports multinational corporations and economic empires, that literally is the BACKBONE of the TYRANNIC STATE. Public employment for life is the deep, hidden origin of the majority of Europe and world's problems, be these in ecology, economy, human rights, peace or in any other area.

Let us demand, therefore, for what it is impossible to deny the absolute legitimacy. Let us claim for a DEMOCRATIC PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT: at FIXED TERM, at TEMPORARY MANDATE, equally shared and of real common belonging. When this new statal system will come to the fore, no longer, for example, State radio/tv will make continuous shameless propaganda for the unique-thought of governments, nor public forces (persons that today are they too assumed for life, becoming so faithful keepers of oligarchic States) will rage against citizens rightly demonstrating, least of all a bureaucratic apparatus could exist, being fertile ground for every kind of corruption and misrule. We, the citizens, long last will say: THE STATE ARE US!

A new society, without exclusion and monopolization, based instead on equal sharing and full participation open for ALL, will take root. On that day even such ambitious aims as to see every human being on Earth having a WORK, and therefore an INCOME, and, even more important, a GUARANTED MINIMUM POWER, will become easily attainable. Unemployment and precariousness and any other incapacity of the governments to give an efficacious answer to the exigencies of society will become a far memory. Because the citizens will cure their same interests.

Public Employment for life, the PUBLIC CAREERISM, is the reef against which all the best dreams of mankind crush. Public Employment for life is the weak ring of an otherwise indestructible chain that binds a whole world and keeps it from achieving social justice and progress. Public Employment for life is the ring that today, in the interest of all and in a peacefully, legally and ethically unexceptionable way, we must definitively break.

Addiction as the driving model of Facebook: http://nyti.ms/1N6K0rO

See here our festival outlines:

Capitalisms business models are based on addiction. New clothes, new technology, permanently new and innovative strategies in institutions, new cars, new mobile phones new this and that, are what we can see everyday. And our addictions rising- just think of our addiction from screens and social media and the internet- the perfect complementary drug to the pharmaceuticals- the legal drug of choice- creating an atmosphere, but never demanding, or even destroying – focus or attention. While “expanding horizons”, “exploring consciousness” and "hedonism" used to be a quality of drugs, pharmaceuticals are correctives, ironing out inappropriate behaviour. No wonder the drugged masses like to do the “right thing”. Little pleasure the pharmaceuticals give us, we must add as well.

The Boston Globe recently published a fake cover imagining a time when Donald Trump would be president. The first major daily doing it as the Yes Men did it with their fake New York times - although this was an art project.
