Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

There is no doubt that Dialogue has changed, while also creating a new way of approaching it and all forms of communication. Today, most communication is received via technology causing the personal connection between some forms of dialogue to become lost. However, it is still existent but received in a totally different way, and also a totally different format. As we know it today, dialogue in a conversation has changed. People now rely on little icons to display their emotions or simply to show what they want to say by using the icon instead. One of the big things that have changed is the way dialogue is being used for special occasions. What once used to be a phone call or catching up for birthdays or any occasion in general, is now some short text message, with seemingly no emotion or real effort. Many people blame this on Generation Y, but what a lot of people don’t realise is that it is that older generations are just as bad. My concept is to put a spin on the way dialogue has changed and how most forms of communication are via technologies. For example, it needs to be put out there for people to stop and think “oh wait, yes that is true”.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

The communication I used for my work was public art seen by the community. I also created a poster of the balloons being photographed in other areas and this further emphasised the idea of special occasions slowly becoming irrelevant, and the lack of dialogue.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

In my opinion, my communication helps the public to become more aware of the predominance of technology today. Reminding them of how communication has changed is beneficial as it is a new concept that can be seen in either two- or three-dimensions.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

I learnt about how dialogue has changed and they way we receive it has changed to now mainly on technology. This is something that i wasn't greatly aware of until i did further research and looked into the topic.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

I feel my work is good communication. I have put a spin on what is a scene of where we would catch up with your friends or family and also places that we go to celebrate occasions. But now these places are left vacant because we don’t create this form of dialogue anymore; it has changed. The photographs I have taken give a good representation of an empty space that should be filled. The text bubbles that are balloons look like the conversation threads on a phone, so this really ties in the whole ‘behind the phone’ aspect, but the emptiness of personal communication and dialogue.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

I intend to create these balloon that look alike and position them in public places and at home on the kitchen table - a lot like my images. This will help emphasise the message I am trying to get across and stand out more while drawing the audience to the balloons.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

My idea could potentially lead to other forms of media as it is easily transferrable to the internet. Based on technology, these posters are relatable to circumstances that those online experience and this can greaten the impact. Although it is not on other media forms yet, the opportunity is always open - allowing for the idea to spread worldwide.
