Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
The first time I visited South Africa, I did an internship with and organisation called the Anti-Privatisation Forum, which fights as part of its mission the privatisation of basic services, especially in poor communities. The series of posters presented is imaging the struggle against water privatisation that South Africa has witness over the years, through a process of love, conflict and imagination.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
I decided to do a series of 3 poster to illustrate different aspect of the struggle. Since I am a graphic designer, I thought the best way was to use this communication approach to express this idea.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
I don't think there is any direct benefits, other than to raise awareness to the issue of privatisation of water, not only in South Africa, but around the world. This privatisation of our common resource, that is essential for our well-being is threaten by corporations who want to make a profit out of an essential common good.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
I already had been aware of the issue touched by the theme that I have chosen, but creating this submitted piece reminded me that this issue touches mainly poor people who have little or no means to pay for services that should be free. This kind of situation reinforces the gap between the rich and the poor.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
Because it raises awareness on a specific issue that I hope will touch the readers. I think it is engaging because it uses "poetry" to talk to its intended public and represents everyday women.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
I intend to implement the posters by posting it on different walls of Johannesburg.
