Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

Gender identity is something that isn't talked about today. Yet sexual preference has more of a dialogue. In the day and age we live in, social media plays a huge part of our lives. We post our everyday living, share funny videos and post intimate and personal things to the internet. As of 2014 facebook added more than 50 gender options for people to identify as ranging from transgender to genderfluid. Yet there's no talk about it. How can we put our lives on facebook and look past identity? I wanted to start a dialogue of awareness on these different identities people accept as who they are. There's more to a person than just He or She. They or them. Identity is apart of who someone is and there needs to be more awareness on it for people seeking guidance to the people around them. It's a sarcastic reaction to society being obsessed with their social media yet some people don't even understand what's going on within it.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

non-commercial use of posters to raise awareness.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

People can be proud of who they are and have people understand who they are. It's just about general awareness that there are people that are more than just a sexual preference which i think means a lot.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

From creating this I’ve really had to look further into my own head about these issues and see how generations upon generations are still in the dark about such issues. My parents and my friends may not know a lot on the subject but kids younger than I do and seeing communities of people accepting themselves really made me want put forth this loss of dialogue on this subject and issue.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

I feel like my campaign is GOOD communication work as I feel like I haven’t seen something like this anywhere around in public. It's clean and concise. And though it’s simple it can be effective. It’s socially responsible and meaningful to its practitioner.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

Mainly Posters near train stations where a lot of commuters go by. Also billboards and magazine ads.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

no.
