Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

For anyone who is the first time travel to a foreign country, the fist impression means a lot, especially when everything there is so different. Communication becomes a serious problem, how to start a dialogue?
And how to build up a dialogue, where the language and culture are so different? The answer will be shown in our design work.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

We concluded that use visual presentation of the information would be better than involved with language. We collected the most popular information clues by images and combined them within a 280 mm wide double sides printed square, and fold it into a normal size brochure so that it will be easily to carry with.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

Based on our design solution, it helps to raise the possibility for a tourist to start a dialogue when he/she travel to a foreign country.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

We learned how important that communication means in our life especially when we travel to a place that our own language cannot work well. And we find that most problems are caused by different language speaking. We hope to avoid those problems, so we study to create the bridge that join two different cultures together.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

We try to play as a double-faced role in coming up with the design solution. In one hand, we consider ourselves as the tourist with the problems may happen when we travel to a foreign country. On the other hand, we learn to be the local residents who want to promote the features of the country and culture.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

As we defined that our design work will be a start information brochure with visual presentations of the most popular features of the country. We suggest to place the brochure where the tourists may achieve for travel information, such as travel agency, airport, tourist information center, hotel reception, and so on.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

The series of publications named 'The Lonely Planet' (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/) had an effect on our research of course, we gained our basic understanding of a foreign country based on their descriptions. In addition, we also researched online travel blogs and found other people's opinions about the countries they had traveled to.
